Turning the ignition off is what I would do with a stuck throttle. But turning off the ignition is widely criticized because of the loss of the power assist on the steering and brakes. And these drivers with stuck throttles are not turning off the ignition or shifting to neutral either one. (Possibly they try neutral but the racing engine makes them think that it didn't help.) This proposed panic button on the dash just drops the engine to idle. (Possibly it does that by reducing power to the fuel pump. Or a diverter in the fuel line might be needed.) See, from a point of view of caution, I am assuming that the problem is with the car and not the driver. So I don't want to fix a malfunctioning electronic throttle with an electronic brake add-on feature. I want a system that goes completely around the electronic throttle.
