Yes, please designate the western North Atlantic loggerhead sea turtle as a distinct population segment and relist as endangered and then designate critical habitat for them. I have lived on Little Hickory Island since 1969 and have watched the decline in the number of turtle nests I see on my beach each year. I have read the stories in our little local newspaper, "The Bonita Banner", telling about the hatchlings that are disoriented and found dead, dying or dehydrated from going the wrong way in their journey to the Gulf. The turtles need all the help we can give them. I have reported multiple times the outdoor beach front lights from two high rise condos, the Ambassador and the Egret, that are left on all night during all of turtle nesting season. I report to the agencies that have been designated to enforce regulation regarding beachfront "lights out" from May to October and the lights remain on. The people living in the condos are not protecting the turtles and the enforcing agencies are not protecting the turtles in nesting season so yes, please do what is needed to protect the mothers and hatchlings so that the loggerhead turtle population does not die out from those humans in Southwest Florida not protecting them. Sincerely, Susan Walch
