This legislation is uncalled for. As a 20 year visitor to Hatteras as well as a nature lover, I cannot fathom how anyone thinks this is a reasonable compromise. You are not only taking away long time public access you are also hurting the island economy. Birds and turtles were protected sufficiently in past years. There was a very good relationship between visitors and wildlife. It wasn't perfect, but it was a good balance. Now with this legislation you are tossing far too many people out of the area. For insufficient cause. While Hatteras should never look like the beaches further north, it should not be as inaccessible as it will now be. I am extremely disappointed that this legislation takes such drastic measures.
